Eating in Hongdae with a suitcase is like trying to dance with a backpack on — technically possible, but everyone wishes you hadn’t. Most alleyway spots have seats squeezed close together, and a 28-inch case effectively claims a whole extra chair. During the lunch and dinner rushes, some places will flat-out say no.
Drop your bags at the station and the map opens up. Here’s where to eat, organized by what matters to you.
“Hongdae” by the way, isn’t one neighborhood — it’s several stitched together. Where you eat depends on which pocket you walk into. The storage exit you pick shapes your options. → Hongdae neighborhoods explained

Solo dining (honbap / 혼밥)
Eating alone in Korea used to carry a stigma — a lot of restaurants wouldn’t seat solo diners. That’s changed fast. “Honbap” (혼밥, a portmanteau of “alone” + “rice/meal”) is now a normal part of life, especially in university neighborhoods like Hongdae. Cafés, ramen shops, gimbap spots, and food courts are the easiest. Barbecue places still tend to expect at least two people.
